Recensione : August (Audio CD) Non l'Eric Clapton che ci si aspetta di solito, ovvero il grande bluesman bianco, raffinato e capace di trasmettere il sound autentico e sanguigno del blues con la sua voce un po' rauca e nasale - perchè Clapton, nonostante lui tenda a sminuire il suo talento canoro, rimane un grande cantante. Abbiamo qui un album di canzoni molto belle, quale più quale un po' meno, più vicine al sound della tamla motown che non al blues. Non a caso compare Tina Turner in uno dei brani, "Tearing Us Apart" e c'è una cover del repertorio di Robert Cray,"Bad Influence" che non sfigura affatto nella track-list, poichè anche Cray sta in una dimensione musicale ad equa distanza tra soul e blues e per il quale il nostro ha da sempre nutrito una profonda ammirazione. Non date retta a qualche rivista che considera certi album di Clapton al di sotto della sufficienza - riferendosi ovviamente ad album discussi quali appunto "August", ma anche "Behind the Sun", "Journeyman" e forse "Pilgrim" -peraltro quest'ultimo sia un vero capolavoro, con canzoni mai così tanto vissute, sofferte quasi-. Slowhand non è solo blues, è soggetto a molte altre influenze musicali.
